Territory 199.9 thousand km 2 (5.8% - forests, 4.4% - water, 53.3% - agricultural lands, 36.5% - other lands). Almost 90% of the territories are located over 1,500 m above sea level.
Resident population as of 2012 5,663.1 million people.
Capital Bishkek
Climate Extremely continental climate. Precipitations are mostly in autumn, winter and spring; summer is usually dry.

Population

Population of the Kyrgyz Republic as of 2012 was 5 million 663.1 thousand people. Gainfully employed population, i.e. population providing work force for production of goods and services during the period in question, amounted to 2,490.1 thousand people, employed population amounted to 2,277 thousand people. Labour force participation rate amounted to 64.9%.

Regarding the education level, population is classified as follows:

higher education - 413 thousand people: 210 thousand males (51%), 203 thousand females (49%); incomplete higher education - 70 thousand: 40 thousand males (67%) and 30 thousand females (33%). Vocational secondary education (colleges) - 305 thousand people: 128 thousand males (42%) and 177 thousand females (58%). Elementary vocational education (lyceums) - 239 thousand people: 173 thousand males (72%), 66 thousand females (28%).


Electricity tariffs

According to the data of the Department for Fuel and Energy Sector (FES) under the Ministry of Energy and Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic, electricity tariffs amount to KGS 0.70 per 1 kWh and are the lowest in CIS countries.

Currently electricity tariffs in Tajikistan for population amount to KGS 1.03 per 1 kWh, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan: KGS 1.62, Ukraine: KGS 2.25, Russia: KGS 2.44, Armenia: KGS 3.06 and Azerbaijan: KGS 3.25. The highest electricity prices among CIS countries are in Belarus and Moldova: KGS 4.31 and KGS 4.56 respectively.

As of today, electricity tariffs for industrial enterprises in Kyrgyzstan amount to KGS 1.32.


Infrastructure in the areas of deposits

The mineral deposits, put up for auctions or tenders, normally have well-developed infrastructure. Actions are being taken to ensure maximum availability of mineral deposits for studying or development. Power lines have been built to the deposit areas, access to water is available due to abundance of local mountain rivers. Deposits are linked to the adjacent areas by dirt roads.
